Will To Excellent
An American visited a local temple under construction, he saw a sculptor making an idol of local God, as he watch the sculptor working, he notice that a similar idol lying nearby. Curious, he asked the sculptor why he needs two identical idols, the sculptor said “No”, his eyes never leave his work, “We only need one, but the first one got damage on the finishing stage”. The American examined the idol and found no apparent damage. “Where is the damage?” he asked. “There is a scratch on the nose of the idol.” the sculptor replied, still busy with his work. “Where are you going to install the idol?”
“It will be installed on the pillar 25 feet high.” replied by the sculptor. “If the sculpture is that far, who is going to know that there is a scratch on the nose of the idol?” the American asked. For the first time the sculptor stopped working and looked at the American, smiled and said, “I will know it.”
The desire to excel is exclusive of the fact whether someone else appreciates it or not. “Excellence” is a drive from inside, not outside. Excellence is not for someone else to notice but for your own satisfaction and efficiency.
